SDLP MLA’S car besieged by loyalists
John Dallat POLITICIAN John Dallat has been in left in a “state of shock” after 20 loyalists surrounded his car.
The East Derry SDLP MLA was on his way home in Kilrea with a takeaway around 8.30pm on Friday.
He said his vehicle was surrounded by a crowd of men and woman as a parade was about to start.
Mr Dallat said the mob – aged between 25 and 45 – were banging on the car’s roof, windows, windscreen and taking photographs.
He added: “I was frightened. There was easily up to 20 involved [but] there was hundreds there and I was worried more would get caught up in it.”
He praised police for coming to his aid after he rang 999 for help.
