Humiliated by bigamist but now we’re big pals
TV Takeaway women united by same pain
TWO wives humiliated by a bigamist who was rumbled on a TV show have met up – and become pals.
Angry Helen Gundry and Susan Brooker came together in their quest for justice after they were both deceived by the same man.
Cheating Daniel Gundry, 39, tied the knot with Susan while already married to Helen.
His web of lies unravelled when he appeared on ITV’S Saturday Night Takeaway, hosted by Ant and Dec, during a segment featuring a live wedding.
Unsuspecting first wife Helen, 52, saw him on the show with 44-year-old Susan and immediately rang him to demand answers.
He dodged her questions and portrayed her to Susan as just a crazy, embittered ex.
But Helen put a post on Facebook and the truth quickly came out – leaving both women’s lives in tatters.
PUNISHED
Each reported him separately to the police and earlier this month he accepted a caution for bigamy.
New-found friends Helen and Susan said Gundry, who was also cautioned for obstructing police, should have been punished much more.
Helen, who told the Sunday Mirror last year of her shock at seeing her husband on telly with someone else, said: “I want to warn people what Daniel’s like. He has got away with it and he’ll think he’s invincible now.”
Susan, who branded Gundry an “absolute psycho”, added: “It’s disgusting. He manipulated, he calculated, he hurt two families and they’ve let him off.”
Susan met IT manager Gundry in 2010 when they were both living in Dubai while she was recovering from the break-up of her first marriage. Romance gradually grew and they married in 2015.
Susan, who has a 10-year-old son, moved into a dream home with Gundry and enjoyed a year of bliss. But in March 2016, the wedding of Susan’s sister Michelle Blackburn was featured on Saturday Night Takeaway and the deceit was exposed.
Susan said: “When I watch the show back Daniel was trying to hide from the cameras.” As the truth emerged, Susan found proof he was still wed to Helen, who lives in Cheshire, and was even encouraging her and their 17-year-old daughter Daisy to move out to Dubai as well. Earlier this year the two women began exchanging texts and emails, before agreeing to meet up. Helen said: “I was really nervous about meeting Susan and it was very strange seeing her in person.” Gundry is believed to be back in the UK. vikki.white@trinitymirror.com
