Wogan honoured by home city sculpture
A BRONZE sculpture of broadcaster Terry Wogan was unveiled in his home city yesterday.
Large crowds gathered at Harvey’s Quay on the banks of the River Shannon in Limerick to honour the star, 77, who died in January last year. Mayor Kieran O’hanlon welcomed his past colleagues from the BBC, Children In Need and members of the TOGS (Terry’s Old Geezers and Gals) fan club who travelled from Britain to be at the official unveiling.
The statue, created by awardwinning artist Rory Breslin, has Terry with a microphone in one hand and a This Is Your Life book in the other.
Cllr O’hanlon said: “We honour a man who, certainly across the water, was our greatest export.
“Terry meant many different things to many people but to all those he meant an awful lot.
“It is only fitting we remember him in his home city.
“Terry has a special place in our hearts, and I hope those memories can be relived by fans with the unveiling of this sculpture.”
