Leo vows to help LGBT around world

-

WHILE the Irish LGBT community can enjoy Pride, members elsewhere don’t have the same freedoms. In Turkey, gay activists will hold their Pride parade today under the threat of water cannon and violent police clashes. In Madrid, authorities are stepping up security in case of an attack during the Worldpride2017 festival.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar told yesterday’s Pride crowd in Dublin he will “advance the cause of LGBT rights, to press for marriage equality across Ireland” and “to speak up for LGBT rights around the world where they are under attack”.

He added: “I don’t think my election as Taoiseach actually made history, it just reflected it. So I don’t think I have changed things for you – I think people like you have changed things for me.”
