Blue plaque accolade for famed cleric

A SENIOR clergyman has unveiled a Blue Plaque to honour the late Archbishop John Hughes.

The Ulster History Circle’s commemorat­ive record praises people who have contribute­d to the culture, industry and history of Northern Ireland.

Archbishop Hughes was born in Annaloghan, Co Tyrone, and yesterday marked the 220th anniversar­y of his birth.

He emigrated to New York where he became the city’s first archbishop.
