No nonsense 80s means business
Decade of shoulder pads taking back control
WE hope you like the Eighties... the autumn winter 2017 runways were awash with accents of the flamboyant decade.
But we’re not talking neon and bum bags, AW17 is about taking back control.
Fashion means business, from Balmain’s giant shoulder pads to oversized blazers and dazzling pops of space age silver – as seen at Mugler and Isabel Marant.
The power suit is also making a big comeback in the no-nonsense double-breasted variety.
Other key trends that were paraded down the catwalks include lashings of velvet, shearling coats and plaid. Naturally the trends have trickled down to the high street and River Island this week unveiled its new collection.
The fashion-forward store has been quick off the mark to mirror the runways.
RAZZMATAZZ
This included the all-over red trend paraded down the catwalks of Fendi, Jil Sander, Givenchy, Christopher Kane and Max Mara.
Top-to-toe in red is the go-to monochromatic look for autumn.
Be ahead of the curve with River Island’s red knit jumper dress (€75) teamed with red thigh high boots (€114). Saint Laurent designer Anthony Vaccarello delivered one of our favourite collections continuing his 80s razzmatazz for his second season with the label.
Think glossy, power-shouldered leather jackets, ruched skirts, plunging mini dresses and slouchy knee-high boots.
Get the Saint Laurent look for less with River Island’s silver dress (€95) or the red bow top (€45) worn with the blue ribbed skirt (€50). demelza.deburca@
