Teenage kicks right through fight

-

Tommy Tiernan is like Marmite – you either like his humour or you don’t. Now the outspoken comic has been named as a cast member for a new Channel 4 series set in 1990s Derry. Against the backdrop of The Troubles, he’s set to play the father of the teenage lead character in the six-part sitcom. According to Channel 4 Derry Girls follows 16-year-old Erin Quinn (Saoirse Monica Jackson, pictured). She’s growing up amid armed police and army checkpoints, but she is also a regular teenager who loves The Cranberries, Doc Martens, bomber jackets, The X Files, Nirvana and Wayne’s World. And while The Troubles may hang over her home town, Erin has more than a few troubles. The series, due to hit our screens soon, is written by Lisa Mcgee who drew on her own experiences growing up in Derry. Let’s hope they’re not all talking through their ‘Derry air’.
