Adams warns little chance of DUP deal by deadline
SINN Fein President Gerry Adams has said he does not expect a deal to restore powersharing to be struck by tomorrow’s deadline.
The Louth TD added the door was still open but claimed there had been no sense of urgency to piece together an agreement.
He said: “I think it is very unlikely there will be an agreement by Monday.
“The DUP are showing no urgency about dealing with the equality and rights issues, which caused the collapse of the political institutions. There is little prospect they will do this before Monday.
“There is no agreement on Acht na Gaeilge, the Bill of Rights, marriage equality, respect, antisectarian measures or legacy issues. Equality, rights and respect are the only basis for sustainable institutions.
“Sinn Fein will do business with them in that context but a starting point for all the parties and especially the DUP has to be that there can be no return to the status quo.
“The institutions have to deliver for all citizens.”
