Still rockin’ and rollin’ in hay
He’s been the godfather of shock rock for 50 years, but 69-year-old Alice Cooper’s sex life is still alive and kicking. “It’s sex and rock and roll,” he tells me. “I stopped doing drugs 35 years ago and I never smoked cigarettes so that was the one advantage to being able to do four, five shows a week. “When you are on stage, your adrenaline is so high – there is no age thing at all.” Asked the secret to his 41-year marriage Alice with Sheryl. Right, with me to Sheryl Goddard, he says: “My advice is marry the girl you love because then you never cheat on her. I take her to cheap hotels all the time.” Sheryl adds: “I tell people he pursues me like I’m not already his.” Alice presented an award at Nordoff Robbins, where Little Mix picked up the Best Live Act gong, sponsored by Ticketmaster. He’s been travelling the world for most of his life, but Barry Gibb admits he’s terrified of flying. “I’m scared, in a word,” says Barry, 70. “I travel as little as possible. I’m a little bit neurotic about being up in the air when it’s not natural. I’m terrified. I’m really good at shutting things out so I switch off the whole concept that I’m on a plane and go to sleep. And I like to get pleasantly p ***** .” After an incredible set at Glastonbury, what’s next? “I don’t know and I like not knowing.”
