TV wrestling legend, 80 ‘killed ex, 47 in Canaries’

- BY GERARD COUZENS

A RETIRED wrestler and former TV star was remanded in custody last night suspected of killing his former partner.

Jimmy Breaks, 80 – known as Cry Baby – was arrested over the death of Donna Cowley, 47, at his home in the Canary Islands.

Cops were called to his flat in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, after a suspected assault early on Friday.

Ms Cowley was found bleeding in the bath and died later of a suspected heart attack. It has been claimed she suffered “several blows”.

Police said they arrived to find Breaks sitting on his sofa watching TV at the Bahía Azul complex in Mogán.

Breaks

Breaks, from Bradford, West Yorks, was a familiar face for almost 30 years on Saturday afternoon TV and a rival of Big Daddy.

Around ten million tuned in to watch his fights – including his trademark move called the Boston Crab.

Breaks, under investigation for homicide and resisting arrest, appeared in court last night.

He has not yet been charged with any crime, as is normal in Spain where charges are only laid shortly before trial.

Sources say there was no background of violence between the couple, who had lived in Gran Canaria for some time.

A post mortem is being carried out.
