- BY GERARD COUZENS

AN Irishman hurt in a swimming pool accident at his Ibiza hotel remained in a critical condition yesterday as he was named as 27-year-old Rickie Healy.

A well-placed source said: “The Irishman hurt at a hotel in San Antonio early on Friday remains critical in the intensive care unit of Son Espases Hospital in Majorca.” But hospital bosses declined to give out any information on the extent of his injuries.

Paramedics took the holiday maker to Can Misses Hospital on Ibiza after the accident which is believed to have happened at bout 6am on Friday at a two-star hotel in the party resort of San Antonio.

It’s understood the ambulance staff told medics they feared he may have suffered life-changing spinal injuries. Local reports said there were fears he had been left paralysed after the first emergency medical response team on the ground were told he had no feeling in this part of his body.

After he was assessed in Ibiza he was airlifted to hospital in Majorca by helicopter.

The details surrounding the accident are still being probed by an investigating judge and the police. It is believed the tourist may have misjudged the depth of the water and hurt himself after leaping into the shallow end and smashing against the bottom.

Guardia Civil investigators have taken witness statements from two Irishmen thought to be pals of Rickie’s who were on holiday with him.

The incident occurred at the Piscis Hotel in Ibiza, a popular island resort for young people.
