ESB quashes hack claims

THE ESB yesterday dismissed rumours hackers have breached its computer system.

The Government’s National Cyber Security Centre confirmed it is working with the intrusion bid at the energy firm.

The attack began when hackers sent an email to an ESB engineer in Donegal in a “spear phishing” attack which he reported to the cyber security team.

A spokesman said: “All threats are treated with the utmost seriousness.”
