SKIPPER WAYNE

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

RONALD KOEMAN is ready to hand Wayne Rooney the Everton captaincy.

The Blues boss has brought the former Manchester United and England skipper back to Goodison in the hope that he can bring a winning mentality to the club.

And, while Rooney insists he has not spoken to his new boss about wearing the armband, club captain Phil Jagielka faces a fight for his place, following the £30million arrival of defender Michael Keane.

Rooney said: “I didn’t speak to the manager about the captaincy because Phil Jagielka is our captain and, of course, I respect that.

“Things like that are Ronald’s decision and I’ll give Jags all my support. It doesn’t matter whether I have the armband or not, I will try to help all the players.”
