Dick’s super sorry for the awful accent

JOKER Dick Van Dyke ACTOR Dick Van Dyke has said sorry for his supercalif­ragilistic­expial-atrocious Mary Poppins accent.

The 91-year-old acting legend played the iconic Bert in the 1964 Disney classic musical adaptation of Mary Poppins, with Dame Julie Andrews.

But many have long been baffled by Dick’s grating “Cockney” accent throughout the film.

The star was this week chosen receive The Britannia Award For Excellence In Television and joked it gave him the perfect platform to say sorry.

He said: “I appreciate this opportunit­y to apologise to the members of Bafta for inflicting on them the most atrocious Cockney accent in the history of cinema.”
