BOY PROMISE PLAIN AS DAY

De Bromhead charge raring to go

- BY RYAN MCELLIGOTT

DAYBREAK Boy is one of the most appealing contenders on a tricky all-flat card at Fairyhouse today.

Henry de Bromhead’s charge, who makes his second appearance of the season, won a Dundalk maiden last December and acquitted himself well on his first start since then at Gowran last month.

On that occasion he lined up in a useful conditions race and was beaten just over four lengths into fourth by Tennessee Wildcat.

The winner of that race has since run well in a good handicap and been placed at Group 3 level, which gives the form a solid look.

Today’s longer trip of 1m4f coupled with the benefit of that comeback effort could see Daybreak Boy come out on top in the day’s final race.

In the opener, Roman Gal could strike for Michael Halford following her encouraging debut over this course and distance last month.

She didn’t enjoy the smoothest of passages that day, but finished out her race nicely to take sixth.

The dangers here will come from the newcomers with Aurora Eclipse and Blue Uluru making most appeal.

In the other two-year-old maiden, Boragh Steps is taken to build on a promising effort at the Curragh last weekend.

The Joseph O’brien inmate was third to the useful Dawn Delivers at the Curragh which showed that she was up to making her mark in a maiden.

In the first of the day’s handicaps, Tom Dooley is put forward to bring up a hat-trick.

He struck at Roscommon last week and then added to his tally when making all at Leopardstown on Thursday.

He is coming back in trip to six furlongs, but the quick ground will suit.

Captain Power is a hopeful choice in the other sprint handicap as he looks to return to form.

He hasn’t been at his best this season, but a return to six furlongs on decent ground will suit him well.

Red Sabor is among the likely contenders as he looks to add this race to recent wins at Bellewstown and Navan.

Political Policy registered his first win on turf at Navan last week and he should be able to follow up in the apprentice rider’s handicap.
