Toffee Tommy driven on by Kop legends

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

EVERTON fan Tommy Fleetwood is dreaming of a top-10 finish — after he was cheered on by a pair of Liverpool legends.

Mark Lawrenson and Ronnie Whelan were spotted walking after Southport-born Fleetwood and fellow Englishman Justin Rose.

And it was the local lad theysaw come out on top with a 66, which included an eagle at 15, that leaves him one over par for the championship.

Fleetwood (right) said: “If it stays nice I might finish top-30. Another low one and it might be top-10, it just depends what the conditions are.

“Friday was one of the best rounds of the year and it just gave me the chance to play for two more days.

“I’ve loved being talked about as having a chance to win a Major and backed as one of the favourites.”

Fleetwood was blown away by the support, Kop legends and all. He added: “We had brilliant crowds. It was always going to be a great sort of crowd when it was me and Justin, me being a local boy and him being Justin Rose.”
