TD’S fury at diesel price hike plans
A RISE in the price of diesel would be “totally unjustified” and a huge burden on ordinary people, a TD has said.
Michael Fitzmaurice, Independent for Roscommon, has blasted proposals that would see the cost of the fuel increase in the next budget.
The move is aimed at lowering carbon emissions but Deputy Fitzmaurice believes it will disproportionately affect people in rural Ireland.
He said: “Less than a decade ago a Green Minister and the Government told the Irish people to buy fuel efficient diesel cars.
“Many people did just that, and in a lot of cases people are struggling to repay the finance on those cars even to this day.”
