A violinist and cellist practised the Italian opera classic Nessun Dorma while florists rushed to put the finishing touches to the white and green display lining the aisle.

The ceremony was an intimate gathering of close family and friends, although a dog could be heard barking from inside the door as the guests arrived in small groups.

Suzanne has two dogs – Coco and Marley – so no doubt they were also on the list of VIPS.

Onlookers gathered on either side of the church and across the road, with their smartphones at the ready, as they waited for her to arrive.

Her five bridesmaids and her mother helped carry her long train as she stepped inside the building. The large crowd of locals remained outside during the hour-long ceremony, waiting for the newlyweds to emerge.

Then the happy couple made their first appearance as husband and wife on the church entrance’s top step.

They shared a kiss before they stepped back out under the floral arch and were sprinkled with white rose petal confetti.

The bride and groom then got into the silver Rolls, which drove away to the reception at the five-star Powerscourt hotel in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow.

The last of the guests were lucky to escape the rain as it set in with a heavy downpour just as everyone left.
