German yobs with knives halt ‘friendly’
GERMAN football fans armed with knives caused mayhem at a pre-season “friendly” match yesterday.
Burnley’s game against Hanover was abandoned at half time after violence.
Fans of the German side charged towards the home supporters, ripping out seats and throwing them.
Police helped the home fans out of the stand.
Burnley supporters said they were attacked by Germans with their faces covered by scarves and carrying flick knives.
Robh20 tweeted: “Disgraceful. German fans with scarves over their face and carrying flick knives. Utter filth.”
Burnley boss Sean Dyche backed the decision to stop the Turf Moor game adding: “Hopefully nobody has got hurt.”
