Before going to the Love Island villa in Majorca, Kem made no secret of the fact he wanted to become a reality TV star to get even more female attention.
In his entry interview he said: “I’m a hairdresser and I’ve done hair for Spencer Matthews, Calum Best, the TOWIE boys, Pete Wicks, Arg, the standard guys. I get on well with them.
“I do look at the way girls react to them and I do think, ‘I wouldn’t mind a bit of that.’”
Mates say this isn’t his first bid at being in the limelight. One told us: “When he was about 15 he became obsessed with Ali G and was convinced he was going to become a gangsta rapper. He would dress like him, talk like him. He thought it was so cool.” But now he is officially part of the reality telly set, Kem’s friends think he is just biding his time before cashing in his fame with adoring female fans. The friend added: “Kem has always been a hit with the ladies but has never known how to treat them because he likes to play the field too much. “I remember one time we were at a house party and he was in one room having sex with a girl while he was dating another. Everyone found out when he ran out naked into the party Kem aimed to be gangsta rappa like Ali G because a moth had landed on him during sex. He’s terrified of them.”
Pals told another story of snakehipped Kem learning to salsa to impress one girl he was, with only to ruin their fledgling relationship by “accidentally” sleeping with her sister.
While in the villa, Amber – who turned down a stage role in Hairspray to appear on the show - shocked viewers by asking producers for the morning after pill, prompting a lecture from show bosses on the importance of safe sex.
The pair continued to romp on the island and, during a TV appearance after their £50,000 win – in which they split the money – they revealed they intended to get married. But Kem’s friends remain sceptical. “A couple of years ago we were at a New Year’s party at his parents’ house,” said one pal.
“Kem was talking about how his ideal game would be pulling women in every city up and down the country and sleeping with them. He said you’d get points based on how pretty they are. At least he’s knocked Cardiff off the list.”
A source close to Kem said: “He has never had a relationship before Amber. She is his first girlfriend. Like any young, single man, Kem previously enjoyed going out to clubs and speaking to girls but has never been on more than a handful of dates with the same girl.
“Kem’s relationship with Amber is anything but a showmance. They are very much in love and have been spending nights together at both their houses. She is very special. They’re looking forward to their relationship further developing.”
The source said Kem’s mum Figen “loved meeting Amber and has welcomed her into the family.”
