FLIGHT OF FANCY INLAND BEACH THE DROWNED FOREST OF MIRACLES NATURE’S STATUE WORLD’S BIGGEST MODEL RAILWAY

-

This “Stairway to Heaven” is a flight of 3,922 steps built in WW2 to reach a secret radio facility. It’s technically off limits, but that doesn’t stop hordes of Instagrammers. Exactly what you’d expect of a Spanish beach – except it’s in the middle of a field more than 100 yards from the shore (a tunnel channels seawater into a cove). Spears of spruce rise up from the water at this pristine lake, where a forest was drowned by an earthquake in 1911. This cathedral perches 300ft above a river canyon, connected by a bridge to the side of the ravine. Stories of miracles abound. This stone tower resembles a woman in a flowing dress and cap, her arms bent at the elbow. But it was ‘carved’ into rock by the forces of wind and rain.
