‘Shocked’ lorry driver heard noises coming from trailer

There were people coming out of the back of the truck, they looked confused EYEWITNESS AS MIGRANTS WERE TAKEN OUT OF A LORRY

at the scene of the incident. A tent, blankets and a number of other items were also found during the search.

An eyewitness told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “There were people coming out of the back of the truck, they looked confused, they Migrants were found shaking in the back of truck near Stradbally were rubbing their heads and seemed to be shaking.

“The gardai brought them to the side and sat them down – then they started taking things out of the back of the lorry.

“There were blankets, empty coke bottles, other packaging and

a pop-up tent. There were three or four patrol cars at the scene and a number of ambulances came over the course of 10 minutes.

“The driver looked shocked to be talking to the gardai.”

It is understood a number of ambulances from Carlow and Kilkenny were dispatched and the migrants were brought to Portlaoise Hospital as a precaution.

It is believed the refugees had arrived in Ireland at Rosslare harbour and their nationalit­y is not yet known.
