Let’s swagger like Jagger...
Monsoon takes glam to High Street
Cosmic paisley dress, ¤182
LIKE a Rolling Stone! Fashion is honouring the greatest rock band of all time with its new season collections. The British band’s fashion legacy was on full display last year in the incredibly successful Exhibitionism — The Rolling Stones which appeared in both London and New York.
The retrospective boasted the largest collection of the Stones’ stage outfits, musical instruments and memorabilia ever assembled.
Over five decades the rockers turned the stage into the world’s largest catwalk changing their look constantly and radically.
For AW17 the fashion world has once again zoned in on their most flamboyant era, styled by the late Anita Pallenberg.
The Bohemian Italian German It girl, who sadly passed away last June, is credited with transforming the Stones from a jacket-and-tie boyband into icons of decadent glam in the late-1960s. Think Mick Jagger in those great Ossie Clarke velvet jumpsuits and a dandified Brian Jones and Richards in the low-slung pants, furs, feathers and floppy hats and jewellery. Writing in his 2010 autobiography, Life, Keith said: “It really p***ed off Charlie Watts, with his walk-in cupboards of impeccable Savile Row suits, that I started to become a fashion icon for wearing my old lady’s clothes.” High street giant Monsoon is one step ahead this season with more than a passing nod to Pallenberg and the Stones’ fashion heyday. Highlights from the collection include rock chick inspired embroidered capes, satin blouses and a Cosmic paisley dress, €182. Give your work wardrobe a rock star twist with the Dougy dungarees (€108) teamed with Lottie Laura lace blouse (€99) while the glamorous Neptune dress (€385) is perfect for all those late night backstage parties. demelza.deburca@irishmirror.ie
