She said: “I was sent from clinic to clinic all over Germany.

“I had electrodes stuck to my head and my eyes and then discovered I had a retinal disorder which is genetic.

“There is nothing you can do about it. It’s going to lead to blindness potentially but it is so different for everyone. It’s quite rare.”

Aine, whose her sight has dropped to just 50%, added: “It was really difficult as I love drawing portraits and making costumes. I don’t know what I will be like when I’m 30 or 80.”
