Cop dies as 6 officers shot in US attacks

SIX police officers have been shot across US cities, leaving one dead.

Matthew Baxter was killed and his colleague Sam Howard critically injured in what cops believe was an ambush in Florida on Friday night.

Within hours, two more officers were shot in Jacksonville in the north-east of the state. One is in a critical condition while the other is stable.

And a suspect who was shot by police in a gunfight died in hospital.

Chief Jeffrey O’dell said: “It breaks my heart to have to speak to you about another senseless tragedy.”
