Beach hit by swim ban for dirty waters

-

A SWIMMING ban is in place at Donabate beach after water tests showed traces of contamination.

The Balcarrick strand in North Co Dublin, which lost its prestigious blue flag status earlier this year, will be closed until tomorrow at the earliest.

Fingal County Council has slapped a temporary Do Not Swim notice on the popular facility.

A spokesman said: “The sample showed a deterioration in water quality and it is believed to be caused by animals and birds.

“Donabate beach remains open to the public but beach users are asked to respect the temporary notice.”
