Conte told to stop moaning

the squad that won the Premier League title three months ago.

And all the transfer exits such as Nemanja Matic, Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-cheek and Nathan Ake were approved by Conte.

Spain striker Alvaro Morata cost around £60m when he was signed from Real Madrid.

Another £40m was spent to bring France midfielder Tiemoure Bakayoko from AS Monaco. He was bought to replace Matic, who has joined Manchester United.

Bakayoko (below) is close to fitness after a knee problem and could figure in the squad to face Tottenham at Wembley today. And £30m was invested to prise Antonio Rudiger from Roma.

A Chelsea source revealed: “It was the owner’s money that funded the squad for Conte.”

The manager’s description of his achievement in bringing the championship to Stamford Bridge as “a miracle” also did not go down well with the club hierarchy.

More arrivals are possible with Chelsea still interested in Alex Sandro of Juventus and Andrea Belotti of Torino, and they may make a late bid for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.

It is unlikely that three promising young players would have been allowed to leave Chelsea without Conte’s official sanction.

Chalobah went to Watford for £5.5m while Bournemouth paid £20m for Ake and Loftus-cheek joined Crystal Palace on loan.

There is also a feeling among the players that an English connection between them and the coaching staff has been lost with the departure of Steve Holland, who now works with England manager Gareth Southgate.
