POG GOT RIGHT REF JUSTICE

-

Tom Carroll, but referee Jonathan Moss awarded a free-kick and gave Pogba a talking-to instead.

Asked if he thought the France international was fortunate, Mourinho said: “No, because I didn’t think the first yellow card was so deserved.”

However, even Pogba admitted he had been testing the patience of Jonathan Moss. “The second one, no, the first one, I saw it again, it’s a yellow card. We had a lot of pressure and I was doing some stupid fouls.

“But the second one, I wasn’t worried, so for me it wasn’t a foul. And that’s why I laughed with him, I said: ‘Are you serious?’. So it’s OK.”

Having stayed on the field, Pogba rubbed salt into the Swans’ wounds by crashing a header against the bar, which was then swept in for the opening goal by Eric Bailly.

But Swansea boss Paul Clement sided with Mourinho and claimed Pogba did not deserve a red card.

Clement said: “If I was in Jose’s position and my player had been sent off for that, I think I would have thought it was harsh.

“I have seen them given, but I would have been disappointed if my player was sent off in those circumstances. Also, I am not going to blame that on why we lost the game.” Mourinho saw Romelu Lukaku, Pogba and Anthony Martial add three goals in a devastating four-minute burst late on at the Liberty Stadium.

It kept United top of the Premier League, with eight goals scored and none conceded after two matches.

It also means United have made an even better start to the season than in 1907 when they also scored four in the first two, but conceded in one of them.

Mourinho saluted his team, saying: “They were waiting with class, calm and consistency for the moment to kill the game.

“Swansea played with five at the back and they had a moment when they felt they had to change and, when they did, we had more space and killed the game.”

The Portuguese manager also paid tribute to Martial after he came off the bench to score.

“Anthony Martial is working hard,” said Mourinho. “He is confident. The French language connection is there to help him get to the level we know he has, because the potential is huge.

“With players like that on the bench, with great qualities, it is easy for me to make changes.

“Good players make managers look even better. Mine have a great attitude, even the ones not selected.”
