On cards

- BY STEVE BATES

WAYNE ROONEY is back on England’s radar – with Gareth Southgate close to a decision on including the Everton star in his Three Lions squad this week.

The England boss watched Rooney against Europa League opponents Hajduk Split at Goodison Park in midweek. And he plans to watch the ex-manchester United skipper tomorrow against Manchester City.

Rooney was axed by Southgate after playing his last game against Scotland at Wembley last year.

But he could be in line for a surprise recall when Southgate names his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Lithuania next month.

Southgate is expected to hand Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah a call-up.

And, with Adam Lallana ruled out with a thigh injury, Southgate may need 119-cap Rooney’s experience and expertise in securing qualification for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.
