Good Evans... give youth a chance Dunny’s Hairdryer

-

THE game has officially gone so many times this summer, you can’t help but lose count.

Bournemouth, yes Bournemouth, paying £20million for a Chelsea reserve now seems like a hazy memory.

That has probably been trumped by almost £50m spent on a fullback into Manchester City or Everton shelling out £45m for Gylfi Sigurdsson. Now, the financial insanity baton has been passed on in City’s proposed £22m move for Jonny Evans.

But never mind the monetary madness, the real negative about City’s pursuit of Evans (right) is that Guardiola feels the player is needed.

He would help City comply with home-grown player rules. But considering the vast resources the club has put into its academy, would it be too fanciful to imagine City promoting from within to give Guardiola back-up?

There are shoots of promise – Phil Foden was on the bench at Brighton as were a couple of youngsters at Stamford Bridge.

These two clubs have dominated youth football in recent years but still show scant trust in their graduates – a blot on the achievements of both.
