My Dodi just wanted to offer Diana and the boys safe haven

were helping clear out her house last weekend.

In the note, embossed with the Harrods logo, Mr Al-fayed wrote: “It is important for me to know that the general public are advised of the truth concerning the powers behind the scene that rule their country.

“I will continue to fight the many injustices which have been done to the ordinary people of this country, especially the murder of my son Dodi and Diana, Princess of Wales. “One day the truth will come out.” It yesterday emerged that Mr Al-fayed’s former lawyer Michael Mansfield QC is now calling for a fresh investigation into the deaths.

He insists the fatal car crash – in which driver Henri Paul was found to be three times over the French drinkdrive limit – was not an accident. The respected barrister says it is suspicious that police did not react to a note the princess wrote claiming Prince Charles was planning her death in a car accident.

He makes the claims in an American TV documentary, set to be screened tonight.

PREGNANT

Mr Mansfield, 75, says: “If you find a body at the bottom of the cliffs in Dover and the person has left a note saying, ‘I’m going to end up at the bottom of the cliffs, dead’… and in the note she’d indicated who she thought would be responsible for her death, I think the first port of call is to say, ‘Hmm, well there may be something in this’.” At the 2008 inquest into the crash, Mr Al-fayed claimed the pair were killed in a plot carried out by the security services.

He says it was carried out because Princess Diana was pregnant and the Royal Family would not tolerate her marrying a Muslim.

“Diana told me on the telephone that she was pregnant,” he said.

“I was the only person that they told.”

He added that Dodi also told him of their intention to marry just an hour before the crash. Mr Al-fayed still hopes someone will come forward with evidence to prove his controversial claims, which were discounted by the inquest 11 years after the tragedy. A jury returned verdicts of unlawful killing through grossly negligent driving by chauffeur Paul and the pursuing paparazzi. But for now Dodi’s father simply wants to quietly remember his son and proudly reflect on his life. He added: “Our son will never be forgotten and I want to thank the members of the public who have sent us thoughtful messages at this very difficult time.” patrick.hill@sundaymirror.co.uk Our crash front page
