Jord: No mention of C word

- BY STEVE BATES

KOP skipper Jordan Henderson has saluted the Anfield dressing room for refusing to let the Philippe Coutinho transfer saga drag down Liverpool.

And the England midfielder has revealed he’s not heard ‘the C word’ mentioned by Jurgen Klopp or any of Liverpool’s stars at the training ground with everyone focused on winning games – not losing Coutinho.

The Brazilian rebel has missed the start of the campaign citing a back injury, with his wrangle to join Barcelona played out in public.

The Spanish giants have tabled several bids for Coutinho this summer – the latest for £114million – after selling Neymar to PSG for £199m.

But even though the constant speculation has, privately, driven Klopp to distraction with endless questioning on the South American, Henderson and the rest of the German’s star-studded squad have kept their game heads on.

“That’s not been difficult at all, no, not really,” said Henderson. “As players and professionals you expect things to happen especially when transfer windows are open.”

Asked if it’s been a struggle to keep the issue out of the dressing room Henderson added: “No we haven’t spoken about it.

“We have just continued to get on with the job as normal. We have started the season pretty well, we always want to improve and hopefully we can now kick-on against Arsenal.

“At the end of the day whatever happens with players coming in and going out, you have to stick together as a team.”

Henderson also believes criticism that they are defensively inept is wrong.

He said: “We aren’t just an attacking team, no. I think we play with intelligence – we want to win the ball back quickly, especially at home.”
