POLICE PROBE AFTER CITY PITCH INVASION

and he denies any assault. Aguero (above) could be seen pleading with a policeman, on behalf of a City fan, who was being arrested for entering the field of play after the winning goal.

City supporter Gary Tipper, from Hale, Cheshire, said: “I could see Aguero getting wound up over the treatment of a City fan. There were four police officers sitting on him, trying to handcuff him.

“They were being extremely rough. I could see Aguero had spotted this and was trying to help the City fan. I didn’t see him throw any punch at a steward.”

Video footage suggests that Aguero merely pushed a steward, who was holding down a pitch-invading fan. The Argentinian felt that the steward and policemen were over-aggressive.

Last night, Aguero tweeted (below), categorically denying allegations that he had punched anyone. The incident has already cost City dear. Sterling’s second yellow card – from referee Mike Dean for his part in the celebrations – will mean he is automatically banned from returning to play former club Liverpool next month.

City manager Pep Guardiola insisted the England star had done nothing wrong, saying: “I would like somebody to call me to explain that decision.

“If you cannot celebrate with the fans, then the best solution is not to invite them. You can imagine how happy he was – and how happy the fans were.”

City have launched their own investigation of events at Bournemouth and are already examining video footage of the incident – including film taken by supporters at the ground.

A senior Etihad source said: “We are reviewing all of the footage. We have seen nothing so far that indicates any wrong-doing by Sergio Aguero.”

City have urged Bournemouth to make an official statement that Aguero has no case to answer.

They accept that the 29-year-old was simply concerned for the safety of a fan.

A statement from Dorset Police said: “The goal was followed by excited celebrations where a number of Manchester City supporters encroached on to the pitch.

“Two male spectators from Manchester were arrested as a result. No other arrests have been made in relation to this incident.

“Officers are reviewing CCTV of the pitch encroachment as part of an ongoing investigation to establish whether any other offences may have been committed.”
