Off-duty cop stops Costa ‘child snatch’

- BY GERARD COUZENS

AN off-duty policeman arrested a man suspected of trying to abduct a twoyear-old girl on a Costa Blanca beach yesterday.

He gave chase after the Spaniard took the youngster, thought to be Eastern European, and ran as her family screamed for help.

Playa del Cura beach in Torrevieja is popular with British holidaymakers and expats. The officer pinned down the alleged abductor, described as around 60, after he let the girl go.

Civil Guard officers were quizzing him yesterday.

In June Blaise Deacon, of Biggin Hill, Kent, said someone tried to grab her girl Darcie, 23 months at a Mallorca hotel. In March, a British woman, 27, told police a man tried to take her toddler daughter in Estepona, Costa del Sol.
