SINGER Niall Horan learned how to build his €44million fortune during his time with One Direction, money experts believe.

The Slow Hands singer, who tops Ireland’s young entertainers’ rich list at the age of 23, is a fast learner when it comes to business according to finance pundits.

Mullingar songwriter Niall features on RTE show Ireland’s Rich List which reveals his amassed wealth is 10 times that of his nearest contender – Wicklow singer Andrew Byrne.

Byrne, better known as Hozier, is worth an estimated €4.5million with Jedward third in the young entertainers’ category with €1.5million.

Show presenter Joe O’shea said: “There were a few surprises on the list for me but Niall wasn’t one of them because One Direction was very much a global vessel.

“The top billionaires tend to be business people but it’s nice to see entertainers with genuine talent getting rewarded.

“I think he realises how lucky he is. He’s young and has all this money but he’s a good head on his shoulders and learned a lot from years in the music industry.”

Niall’s golfer pal Rory Mcilroy tops the sports rich list at €96million ahead of Conor Mcgregor at €82million, with Shane Lowry and Seamus Coleman worth €9million apiece and Ireland striker Shane Long on €5.1million.

The first of the two-part series counts down those at the top from No 30 to No 16 – and reveals what it takes to join the exclusive multi-millionaires’ club.

U2 are at No 26 with a combined wealth of €645million, beef baron Larry Goodman is at 21 with €650million, Formula One mogul Paddy Mcnally is 20 with €718million and builder brothers Luke and Brian Comer from Galway are at No 16 with a combined €906million. The countdown continues next week with Stripe founders the Collison brothers, billionaire racehorse owner JP Mcmanus, financier Dermot Desmond and the list-topping Mistry family dynasty with a total wealth of €12.4billion. O’shea added: “You meet these people and they take you out on their yacht – and on the one hand it would drive you into a jealous rage, but on the other I think we can acknowledge when someone’s built up a business through hard work.” Ireland’s Rich List is on RTE Two on Thursday at 9.30pm. news@irishnews.ie
