Under-fire top cop defended as role model

-

GARDA Commissioner Noirin O’sullivan has been described as “an incredible role model for women in this country”.

There were fresh calls for Ms O’sullivan to resign last week amid revelations the figure for fake garda breath tests is closer to 1.5million than one million.

However, Employment Minister Regina Doherty expressed support during a panel discussion at the Kennedy Summer School, Wexford.

She said: “I have confidence in her, not just because of her long sterling record of service to the country, but because she wants the job.”

She added that Ms O’sullivan, who applied for a job with Europol, “has the vision and the grit, which is needed”.
