Was Cranston Bad choice for disabled role?
A DIRECTOR has defended casting Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston as a disabled character in his new movie.
In The Upside Cranston plays a rich quadriplegic who befriends a young man from the projects.
Disability campaigners hit out at the able-bodied star, 61, being chosen.
But at its premiere in Canada, director Neil Burger said they had tried to make the film – a remake of French hit The Intouchables – as sensitively as possible.
He said: “We went at it with as much respect and honesty that we could – and certainly Bryan did – and our goal is to shed light and be compassionate and respectful to those communities.”
