CYCLING Froome has vroom to stretch his lead

CHRIS FROOME extended his La Vuelta lead with a show of strength in Spain yesterday. The Briton now leads nearest rival, Colombia’s Esteban Chaves, by 28 seconds ahead of today’s ninth stage. As stage winner Julian Alaphilippe of France and Poland’s Rafal Majka battled to be first across the line, Froome accelerated on the day’s final climb and only Alberto Contador could stick with him as the Team Sky leader forged on.
