Join Terri in fight to axe sun salons

-

TERRI was the first person to sign the Tan Ban UK petition calling on Downing Street to axe the use of sunbeds.

They were outlawed in Australia, which has the world’s highest incidence of melanoma, in January 2016 following the lead of Brazil and some American states.

The World Health Organisation classifies them as grade 1 carcinogenic, the same as cigarettes and plutonium.

The UV rays they omit are no safer than the sun, and they damage the DNA in your skin cells, which can lead to cancer.

Using a sunbed at least once in your life increases your chance of developing the disease by 20 per cent. For people under 35, this risk leaps to 87 per cent.

Treating these cancers will cost the NHS €510million a year by 2025. Yet 86 per cent of cases are preventable.

A Cancer Research UK campaign led to access to sunbeds being restricted to over-18s in England and Wales in 2011.

The new petition needs 100,000 signatures to trigger a discussion in Parliament. Sign it by visiting sunsense. co.uk/help-and-advice/tan-ban-uk.aspx.
