Redknapp is axed by the Blues
Chinese owners comes less than three weeks after the 70-year-old undertook a massive spending spree on transfer deadline day.
In all, Redknapp sanctioned 14 signings during the summer – with almost half of them completed on the final day of the summer window.
Since then he has played just three matches – losing all of them – as Blues slipped into the bottom three of the Championship.
Birmingham have won just once in the league this season.
Redknapp was coming under little pressure from the supporters, who were keen to see him given time to bed in the new recruits.
But that was clearly at odds with the wishes of the Blues’ owners – a venture capitalist group called Trillion Trophy Asia.
Brummie Lee Carsley, added to the coaching staff in the summer, is likely to get the manager’s job on an interim basis.
He will be in the frame to take over permanently, while other early favourites will include former Blues No.2 Steve Cotterill.
