Sina’s song bid to break West curse
A TALENTED German born singer-songwriter, who says Mayo has “won her heart over”, recorded a song for the Westerners – and is hoping it can inspire them to a historic victory today.
Sina Theil’s new Sam’s Coming Home single has over 3,000 views online and is in aid of the Achillbased childhood cancer charity Gearoid’s Smile.
The Hamburg woman, 28, moved to Ireland two years ago to study at the British and Irish Modern Music school in Dublin, and later signed to the Kildare-based Downda Road Productions label. Sina, pictured wearing her Break The Curse T-shirt in reference to Mayo’s 66-year cup-less run, spends five days a week in Achill and the remainder in Naas.
She said: “My record label own a song-writing retreat on Achill Island so that’s how I fell in love with Mayo and got to know it. It’s such a warm community. I’ve had overwhelming support.”
Sina’s video for the song was filmed in Achill and Westport, with the picturesque coastal scenery in the backdrop. It’s available to buy on itunes.
