RYANAIR IN CRISIS:
TIME FOR A SALE!
RYANAIR launched a flash sale this weekend flogging seats for €9.99 in a bid to stem the loss of customers.
The crisis-hit budget flier – in the eye of a storm after cancelling thousands of flights – is desperate to rebuild confidence in its brand.
According to its website the no frills airline is offering flights for less than a tenner in October when many of the cancellations are due to take place.
The sale was announced in an email to regular customers and includes London, Paris and Ibiza.
It comes as pilots have refused a bumper payday to get back to work instead of taking the holidays the airline says caused the travel chaos. They have now written to airline chief Michael O’leary threatening to bring in lawyers after he refused to meet their demands and accused them of being lazy.
The embattled boss issued a grovelling apology and the following day said sorry to “front line teams”, pilots and cabin crew.
Mr O’leary said: “I’m really sorry we visited this on you. We are working hard here to try and fix the rostering failure.”
Yesterday it emerged pilot unions from around the world pledged their support for Ryanair staff as the row over pay and conditions escalates. A showdown with management looms in an intensifying dispute and pilots have threatened to work to rule until the issues are dealt with. The US Allied Pilots Association, which represents 15,000 members at American Airlines, took a full-page advert imploring Michael O’leary to “rethink his approach”. Unions and organisations from across Europe are also understood to be liaising closely with the pilots. As many as 400,000 passengers on 2,000 flights have had their trips cancelled over the next six weeks. news@irishmirror.ie
