Gas services put back on after blunder

- BY ANITA MCSORLEY

GAS Networks Ireland last night restored services for the thousands of homes and businesses affected by a major leak this week.

Supplies were back on after fully odourised gas was returned to the affected counties.

Customers in Galway and Mayo can now use their gas supplies safely.

A technical blunder saw odourless gas enter the mains network from Shell’s Corrib refinery in Co Mayo on Thursday.

Customers were warned to ensure all their appliances are switched off prior to turning back on their gas supply.
