Warts-and-all glimpse of Gaga

-

This film shows the life of Lady Gaga at her most vulnerable with insider access during one of the key periods in her career. The singer permitted filming of her time with pals and family, launching her 2016 album Joanne and dealing with personal struggles. This week she said she was postponing the European leg of her world tour because of physical and mental health issues. Her battle with chronic pain is a recurring theme in the documentary. Joanne takes its title from Gaga’s aunt who died at 19 from complications of lupus. When the star, right, visits her granny to play her the title track, she weeps openly. The film is a gripping piece of work – in danger of eclipsing the album it was meant to support.
