GAA chief hails delegates at Croker after major overhaul
The 2018 All-ireland SHC will see major reform with the Munster and Leinster Championships to be played on a roundrobin basis, with a new second tier competition which will feed into the Liam Maccarthy Cup race also created after yesterday’s Croke Park summit. It follows on from the decision to introduce a ‘Super Eight’ series to the football Championship and O Fearghail (below) said: “There’s been a lot of discussion and talk over a long period of years but this has been an action Congress and decisions have been taken and I’m very happy that it is clear and decisive.
“We’ve taken a bold, brave decision in football and we’ve now taken a similar decision in hurling.
“Of course there’s challenges. If there was no challenges we wouldn’t be doing it but I have no doubt we’ll be well able to run our series of games.”
