YESTERDAY’S ACTION BY DAVID YATES

-

CLEMMIE is the 3-1 favourite for next year’s 1,000 Guineas after taking the step up to Group 1 level in her stride to lift the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Aidan O’brien (above) was purring after watching the sister to dual 2,000 Guineas hero Churchill power up the hill under Ryan Moore to beat Different League by a length and three-quarters.

“To be showing that kind of class over six furlongs, you’d be over the moon,” said O’brien, whose winner, a possible challenger at next month’s Breeders’ Cup, is the first progeny of Galileo to land a top-level prize over sprint distances.

“She would have the option of going to America if that’s what the lads wanted and she was happy to do that.”

O’brien’s U S Navy Flag led home Fleet Review in the Middle Park Stakes to give the master of Ballydoyle a 20th top-tier triumph of 2017.

The plunge on Thundering Blue, 6-1 favourite for the Cambridgeshire, went astray as champion jockey Jim Crowley’s mount returned in seventh behind 50-1 winner Dolphin Vista, who beat 100-1 outsider Sands Chorus.
