Trauma tots ‘ice rescue’

-

COOLING a newborn baby’s brain after a traumatic birth can slow brain damage, it has been claimed.

A conference hosted by the UCC Infant Centre in Killarney heard yesterday that babies covered with a cold-water blanket within six hours had a lower rate of disabilities.

The research was carried out on lambs in New Zealand and then followed up with tots.

Several hospitals offer the therapy in Ireland.
