Hot air brings chat back to storm island

-

Solar-powered balloons will restore phone services knocked out by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

Tech giant Google plans to fly 30 balloons on the edge of space above the Caribbean island.

Phones fell dead when thousands of phone masts were felled in last month’s storm – and 83 per cent of them are still out of action.

Temporary masts are also being installed.

The balloons were originally designed to extend internet connectivity to people in rural and remote areas worldwide.
