Maya’s brave words on dad
Stormzy’s girlfriend Maya Jama has spoken of the impact of alcoholism after it led to violent episodes by her dad. The TV star, 23, told how her family protected her from the truth about her jailbird father. She says: “He was a violent man attacking other people. He had a young family. He did have stuff to lose. “Smashing glass in someone’s neck, that’s the type of stuff he was doing. Football hooliganism – booze definitely fuelled my dad’s violence. So many kids are growing up with alcoholism in the family.” Maya spoke in her documentary When Dad Kills: Murderer in the Family. After 10 years, Maya was reunited with her dad and admits it was “really nice” to see him. Powerful stuff.
A new film about tragic star Amy Winehouse has signed a string of “top producers”, according to her ex-boyfriend Reg Traviss.
The star’s dad Mitch, 67, is making it after he claimed a previous documentary – Amy, by Asif Kapadia – blasted him.
Speaking at the Amy Winehouse Foundation Gala, Reg, 40, tells me: “Her dad has got some top producers, I think it is going to be good.”
Amy, right, died aged 27 of alcohol poisoning in 2011. Mitch says: “This will continue her legacy in the right way.”
Wrestling star Hulk Hogan’s kids have told of how his bouts horrified them.
Daughter Brooke, 29, says: “I was so worried. If you are a little kid watching your dad on TV with blood pouring out of his face, it is pretty traumatising.
“He would always tell us it was ketchup but I think we knew he was getting hurt.”
Hulk has had 17 back ops and knee replacements but Brooke, who hosts The Fashion Hero on Amazon Prime Video, tells me: “He’s 64 but he might as well be 34.”
