Brave Blaithin beats illness to reach top of the charts
Blaithin Singer-songwriter Blaithin Carney has revealed she was told she would never play the piano again due to illness.
The mum of two was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, the crippling condition being battled by Lady Gaga.
But not accepting her fate Blaithin cured herself and now has a No1 record under her belt after booting Ed Sheeran from the top of the charts.
The 35-year-old told the Irish Mirror how she suffered burnout after opening her music centre in Newbridge, Co Kildare, and growing it to 300 pupils.
She said: “I was working 12-hour days, six days a week trying to get the school established.
“Ultimately I started to burn out and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in my late 20s. I refused to accept it and started on this path of how to figure out how to fix myself.
“I was chronically fatigued and had to stop working for a while and took up pilates and went on to train in teaching it.
“I felt like I cured myself. It didn’t go overnight, it went away with sheer determination on my part.”
Blaithin will launch her new single Close My Eyes on October 25 in Sin E, North Dublin.
